Sailboat Rental in Brazil

Home / Boat Rental in Brazil / Sailboat Rental in Brazil

Sailing changes the pace of the day. With the engine off, the boat moves with the wind, the sea feels different, and getting there stops being transport and becomes the point of the trip.

We list sailboats along much of the Brazilian coast — Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande, Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, Búzios, Ilhabela, Florianópolis and Salvador among them. A skipper is included on most boats, and fuel is included on sailboat day charters, engine time included. Prices are in Brazilian reais (BRL), and payment terms are confirmed with each quote.

What a day under sail is like

The usual format is a private charter of four to eight hours with a skipper on board. The route is decided on the day, because sailing depends on the wind: the skipper picks the heading that makes the best of the breeze and uses the engine through the stretches where it dies.

It’s slower than a motorboat and covers fewer beaches, which is exactly why people choose it. The boat heels, the wind is constant, and the feeling on board is nothing like a powerboat. If anyone in the group is prone to seasickness, say so when you book — sheltered bays are far flatter than open water.

Skippered or bareboat

Most sailboats here go out with a skipper included in the price. Some offer a bareboat option for guests with a licence and real command experience, and a small number work that way only.

If you want to sail the boat yourself, mention it in your first message: owners usually ask about your experience before confirming. Brazil doesn’t operate the standardised charter-licence system familiar from the Mediterranean or the Caribbean, so each owner sets their own requirements.

Where to sail in Brazil

Ilha Grande Bay — Angra dos Reis, Ilha Grande and Paraty — is the country’s main cruising ground: a protected bay scattered with hundreds of islands, reliable summer breezes and sheltered anchorages like Lagoa Azul, Saco do Céu and Saco do Mamanguá. It’s the closest thing Brazil has to a chartering hub.

In Rio de Janeiro, sailing means Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain and the run out to the Cagarras Islands. Ilhabela, on the São Paulo coast, is the country’s regatta capital and has wind almost year-round. In Santa Catarina, departures are usually from Florianópolis, Itajaí, Balneário Camboriú and Porto Belo. Salvador opens onto Baía de Todos-os-Santos, the largest bay in Brazil.

Overnight and multi-day sailing

Many sailboats have cabins and offer overnight stays on board — they’re built to stay out for days, which makes them the natural choice for it. From there, multi-day island itineraries can be arranged on request.

Overnight and multi-day rates differ from day-charter rates and depend on the date, the number of guests and the route. Ask our team for a quote and we’ll put the proposal together.

When to sail

The Brazilian season runs roughly from November to April, with the strongest demand around New Year and Carnival — book those dates well ahead. The shoulder months either side often bring steadier wind and quieter anchorages, which many sailors prefer.

Sailboat, catamaran or motorboat?

A monohull gives you real sailing: heel, spray and the boat working with the wind. Catamaran rental in Brazil trades some of that for stability and much more deck space, which usually wins with big groups and children. Motorboat rental in Brazil is the choice when you want speed and several beaches in one day.

Booking your charter

Navegue Temporada is a Brazilian boat rental platform, and we arrange everything directly with you over WhatsApp or email. Tell us the date, the destination and how many guests are coming, and we’ll suggest the sailboats that fit — including which ones have cabins, a toilet on board and the option to sleep aboard.
