Brazil has one of the longest coastlines in the world, and the stretch between Rio de Janeiro and Santa Catarina concentrates most of its charter activity: sheltered bays, hundreds of islands within a few hours of sailing, and warm water for most of the year. Guanabara Bay and the coast west of it put Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana, Ipanema and the Cagarras Islands within reach of a single afternoon. Departures are typically from marinas in the city, and many charters cross to Niterói or head out to the islands off Ipanema. Paraty combines a preserved colonial centre with a bay full of small islands and inlets. Nearby is Saco do Mamanguá, an eight-kilometre inlet often described as the only fjord on the Brazilian coast. Prices start at R$1,200 per charter for a smaller boat on a half-day route, and rise with the size of the boat, the number of hours, the destination and the season. Mid-sized motorboats and sailboats for a full day usually sit in the low thousands of reais; large yachts and catamarans for big groups go well above that.
Four things move the price more than anything else: how many hours you book, how many people are coming, which destination you sail from, and whether you travel in high season (November to April, which includes New Year and Carnival). Fuel, catering and any marina or barbecue fees are confirmed with your quote, since they are handled differently by each owner.

Between four and eight hours, depending on the boat and the route. Unlike charter markets where a “day” means 24 hours, Brazilian day charters are booked as a set block of hours, agreed before departure.
Not for most charters. Nearly all of our boats include a licensed skipper in the price, so no qualification is required from you. If you want to sail bareboat, Brazil’s maritime authority requires a recognized amateur skipper qualification, and the owner will assess your experience before confirming.
Yes, on boats with cabins. Overnight and multi-day charters are available on part of our sailing and yacht fleet, and are quoted on request rather than at a fixed day rate.
That rule comes from United States and international regulations, not Brazilian ones, and it does not determine capacity here. In Brazil, the maximum number of passengers is set for each individual vessel and recorded in its registration documents. Capacity across our fleet ranges from small boats for a handful of guests to large vessels licensed for dozens.
For a group, it often costs less per person than it looks. Splitting a private charter between eight or ten people can come close to the price of individual tickets on a shared tour, with the difference that you choose the route, the timing and who is on board. For solo travellers or couples on a tight budget, a shared tour is usually cheaper.
November to April is the Brazilian summer and the peak charter season, with the warmest water and the longest days. It is also the busiest and most expensive period, especially around New Year and Carnival. May to October brings fewer crowds and lower demand, and the northeast stays warm year-round.
