Baía de Todos os Santos covers roughly 1,233 square kilometres and holds an archipelago of islands within easy reach of Salvador. Routes vary by boat, weather and how long you charter for, but the following are the places charters on the bay commonly head toward.
Ilha dos Frades is the island most itineraries include. Its best-known beach, Ponta de Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, holds Blue Flag certification, and a stone staircase climbs from the sand to a hillside chapel with a wide view over the bay. The cove at Loreto, on the northern side, is the usual second stop.
Itaparica is the largest island in the bay and sits at its entrance, about ten kilometres from Salvador. Ponta de Areia is the stretch of beach most often mentioned by visitors arriving by boat. Charters heading here typically need a full day.
These smaller islands sit closer to the city — Ilha de Maré is roughly half an hour from Salvador by boat — and suit shorter charters or a half-day on the water. They are quieter than Frades and Itaparica, with fishing villages rather than tourist infrastructure.
Some of the best views of the city are from the bay itself. Charters leaving Salvador often pass Forte São Marcelo sitting alone in the water, the Farol da Barra lighthouse, the beach at Porto da Barra, and the Itapagipe peninsula with Monte Serrat at its tip.

The twelve-passenger limit comes from United States and international rules — under SOLAS, a yacht carrying more than twelve passengers is treated as a passenger ship with heavier requirements. It is not a Brazilian rule. In Brazil, each vessel’s maximum capacity is set on its registration with the Capitania dos Portos, so it varies boat by boat. Several boats in our Bahia fleet are certified for well over twelve guests.
