Most boats are moored on the Bertioga channel, the sheltered arm of water between the mainland and Santo Amaro island. You run a calm stretch past mangroves and the Forte São João before clearing the mouth into open sea.
Heading south, the channel opens opposite the Guarujá beaches, and from there it’s a short hop to Ilha das Palmas and the islets around it — the usual anchorages for swimming and snorkelling. Northward lie the long beaches of Riviera de São Lourenço, Guaratuba and Boracéia, emptier the further you go.
With settled conditions and a full day, longer runs reach toward São Sebastião. When the sea is rough, the rivers and mangroves inside the channel make a calm alternative — shallow draft is an advantage there, and speedboats handle it better than larger boats.
