Balneário Barra do Sul is a small town on the northern coast of Santa Catarina: around 12 km of beaches, two calm lagoons and a handful of islands sitting just off the shore. It’s the kind of place where a boat changes the day completely, because the islands can only be reached by sea.
Charters here are private, with a skipper included on most boats, and the run out is through the Barra channel, which links the lagoon to the open sea. Prices are in Brazilian reais (BRL), and payment terms are confirmed with each quote.

The usual format is a private outing of a few hours with a skipper included. You choose the departure time, and the route is agreed on board around the sea and wind that day. The boat is yours alone — no other passengers.
Crossing the Barra channel is usually the first part of the trip: boats leave the sheltered side and reach open water within minutes, with the islands in view soon after.
The islands off the coast are the main draw and hold most of the swimming and snorkelling stops. On the inland side, the Costeira and Maria Fernanda lagoons offer shallow, still water, which tends to work well with small children.
Along the shore, Praia da Boca da Barra is known among kitesurfers and windsurfers for its combination of wind and open sea. Longer charters can follow the coast north toward São Francisco do Sul and Babitonga Bay, or south toward Barra Velha and Penha.
High season runs from December to March, when the town’s population multiplies and the channel gets busy. Outside that window the place is far quieter and more boats are available — November and April usually combine decent weather with very few people.

Balneário Barra do Sul is under an hour from Joinville, the largest city in Santa Catarina, and around 60 km from Penha. It makes an easy stop if you’re driving the state’s northern coast, and it’s a quieter alternative to the better-known resort towns further south.
